All corporate decisions 'rely on data quality'
Nov 13 2009, 10:19 AM
Many organisations find it difficult to manage their customer information, despite the fact that many corporate decisions are based upon it, an expert has suggested.
Writing for zdnet.com, Navin Sharma said there are a number of "fundamental best practices" businesses should stick to in order to ensure their data is reliable and current.
"Think of your corporate data as the foundation of your house. No one would think of living in a house with a rotten foundation," he commented.
By taking an in-depth profile of its data, a business can get an idea of which fields are populated the most and identify anomalies, Mr Sharma added.
Writing for Data Quality Pro earlier this week, Dylan Jones noted that one of the biggest causes of information defects within businesses is poor data being entered at the start of the chain.
He claimed that data entry forms should be stripped back, with businesses taking a minimalist approach.
