Brands 'can build relationships through Facebook'
May 26 2010, 15:34 PM
Facebook and Twitter serve different purposes from a marketing perspective, it has been claimed.
Andrew Girdwood, head of search at bigmouthmedia, said Twitter is "highly transistory" and good for grabbing attention. However, Facebook is there "for stamina".
"Brands can actually build something which will reside and persist within Facebook and allows them to communicate with many people in a more relaxed venue, whereas Twitter is one to one communication," he explained.
Mr Girdwood added that people are more hesitant to show their loyalty towards a brand on Facebook as their actions are more public. However, when they do they are showing a noted interest in it.
According to a recent post on social media and marketing site The Wall, Facebook is a more effective platform for brands looking to get their message across to consumers.
It noted that some brands have seen their sales increase by 200 per cent since they established a presence on the site.
