Business theft and fraud 'on the increase'
Jun 29 2010, 12:27 PM
Over half of UK businesses have experienced an increase in theft and fraud over the last two years, according to new research.
A study carried out by ABM revealed that despite this, investigation personnel numbers have declined by 25%.
It was revealed that security incidents cost one in five businesses between £100,000 and £999,999 every year, with 42% of organisations spending more in 2009 than they did in 2008.
"The top three challenges facing organisations' ability to investigate incidents are budget constraints, lack of personnel and an increase in the number of incidents.
With a focus on the bottom line, large companies are under pressure to find ways of cutting costs," said ABM Managing Director Alastair Luff.
He added that technology will play an increasingly important role in preventing business fraud and theft in the future, due to the fact that many organisations are cutting back on staffing levels and investigation budgets.
Speaking recently, Kevin Bocek, Director of Product Marketing at IronKey, said businesses storing large volumes of data on portable devices are risking having their information stolen and used by an unauthorised person.
