Jul 30 2010, 13:40 PM
A new report has stated that businesses should concentrate on making improvements to their data quality.
According to the TDWI Checklist Report on Product Data Quality, there are seven main steps that should be taken by companies with data quality problems they want to address.
Information Management Online reports that one of these is to standardise the data quality strategy, as well as to enhance the product data by adding more information to it.
"Even when product data is clean and standardised, its value can be raised by filling in vacant fields and appending data," the website pointed out.
It added that data quality improvements should include bearing in mind requirements which may be common to each data domain used.
This comes shortly after Dylan Jones, Founder and Editor of Data Quality Pro, stated that organisations need to accept that they have problems with data quality.
He said many companies pretend they do not have any data quality issues until they begin to affect profit margins.
