Businesses 'should focus on data capture process'

Oct 30 2009, 13:30 PM

Evaluating data capture processes is important in order to ensure that inaccuracies are kept to a minimum, it has been claimed.

Writing for the International Association for Information and Data Quality's (IAIDQ's) October newsletter, Jack Olson noted that the process point at which details are captured is the "single most important place data can be made accurate".

"Building a diagram of the data paths of a business object, identifying the distinct points of data capture and specifying the characteristics of each is a time-consuming but extremely important task," he explained.

Mr Olson suggested that all data capture points should be analysed and examined on a regular basis.

Speaking earlier this month, IAIDQ Director of Publicity and Recruitment Daragh O'Brien said businesses should care for their data and make an effort to enrich it.

He added that organisations with reliable information are better placed to deal with any challenges that arise.
