Companies 'will focus on data quality'

Apr 21 2010, 11:54 AM

Companies will begin to focus more on data quality as the economic recovery begins to kick in, it has been suggested.

Daragh O'Brien, former director of publicity at the International Association for Information and Data Quality, said concentrating on data consistency will be important for businesses in the months ahead.

"The scale of cutbacks in staff numbers and other cost areas will have resulted in the inefficiencies and workarounds that exist in how many businesses manage their data being exposed," he explained.

Companies are becoming increasingly aware of the fact that they can make savings and benefit from streamlining and improving the management of their data, Mr O'Brien added.

Speaking recently at a conference in London, Stibo Systems noted that many businesses and IT teams still rely on spreadsheets and manual systems to manage their product information.

Furthermore, it claimed that poorly managed data can impact on revenues and customer service levels.
