Confidence 'improving among businesses'
Jan 18 2010, 12:07 PM
Confidence is increasing among UK businesses, new research has found.
According to the latest IPA/BDO Bellwether report, 47% of companies are seeing improved prospects.
Furthermore, spending on internet advertising is expected to increase for the first time this year since quarter two of 2008.
Although marketing spend is continuing to fall overall, there has been a considerable slowdown in budget cutting, the data revealed.
Rory Sutherland, IPA President and Vice Chairman of Ogilvy Group UK, commented: "Whilst companies are still understandably wary, the report reveals a strong rise in business confidence and the suggestion that GDP may well have risen in Q3."
He added that it will be interesting to see whether the increase in online marketing spend will lead to an upturn in other areas.
A Marketing-GAP Tracking Study carried out recently by online market research provider fast.MAP and the Direct Marketing Association revealed that consumers are becoming increasingly willing to receive promotional material from retailers.
