Councils 'have data quality strategy improvement opportunities'
Sep 29 2009, 09:57 AM
Local councils have been presented with the opportunity to improve the quality of their data management systems, according to one industry commentator.
Nick Kingsbury, Director of Content, Collaboration and Process Management Specialist for the Public Sector at Objective Corporation, made his comments after the publication of data from the Audit Commission in recent weeks.
The body's findings - which were published in the paper Is There Something I Should Know? - indicated that many councils do not make effective use of data and also miss opportunities to enhance services as a result.
Mr Kingsbury stressed that data quality management is important because it is often "highly sensitive and confidential" and urged local authorities to take the chance to improve the way in which they deal with information.
"We live in a modern age in which information flows quickly and traditional filing and distribution systems must be modernised to cope with the rigours of today's working environment," he concluded.
