Data entry workers 'should be part of data quality solutions'
Mar 18 2010, 11:44 AM
A data quality specialist has claimed that data entry workers should be invited to participate in solving data problems.
Writing on the Data Quality Pro website, Dylan Jones said that actively engaging workers in the process of finding resolutions to data issues was likely to increase their understanding and appreciation of set standards.
Mr Jones wrote: "Even with staff who are the lowest paid, part-time and relatively unskilled, incredible data quality gains can be made."
The expert also added that simply instructing employees instead of working with them to develop new techniques could result in them failing to properly comprehend why particular data quality models were in place and that mistakes may occur as a result.
An earlier article by Mr Jones on the same website questioned whether some firms were overly reliant on data quality software rather than truly understanding how data could be best applied to suit their company's own needs.
