Data governance framework to have Asian twist
Aug 13 2008, 17:19 PM
Work is due to begin this year on an information governance framework, which will shape the future of how data is used and can be used.
IBM data governance council chairman Seven Adler has explained the framework will have many contributors and will feature heavy involvement from those in Asia.
The Asian nations are home to 4 billion people and therefore will be heavily affected by any new regulations.
"Central banks in Asia have been playing a major role in helping Asian banks comply with Basel II," he said.
"They play a partnership and advisory role which has been key to helping many Asian banks build advanced risk calculation and management capabilities.
"Those same Asian central banks have been keeping a keen eye on developments in data governance and I'm sure that Asian regulations will keep pace with banking best practices around the world."
The framework will likely have far reaching effects over the next four years.
Mr Adler said that the governance is meant to help decision-making "by providing the best possible data quality".
