Data quality 'an issue with fast-growing firms'
Oct 9 2009, 12:59 PM
Data quality issues can arise in organisations that have grown in size quickly, one sector commentator has suggested.
In an article for online resource AMEinfo, Jim Mortleman explained that when businesses have systems in place in order to facilitate their rapid growth, they may not be best suited for furthering an organisation's integrated strategy.
"That has given rise to issues of data quality and integrity," he noted.
Mr Mortleman stated that some financial institutions can be an example of where data quality is drawn into question as a result of systems placing a greater focus on development, rather than integrated strategy.
He noted that they "generally have a number of independent systems loosely coupled to core banking and there are a lot of inconsistencies in the data among them".
Earlier this month, industry analyst Heidi Cohen told ClickZ that leveraging data quality can be key for firms looking to enhance customer relationships.
