Data quality could be key for UK government scheme
Dec 1 2011, 09:49 AM
Data quality might prove important for the UK government as it has announced plans for an Open Data policy.
Professor Nigel Shadbol and Professor Tim Berners-Lee will co-direct the initiative - entitled the Open Data Institute (ODI) - that over the next five years will be supported by £10 million of funding.
The aim is to ensure UK businesses are able to make use of information to take advantage of the commercial opportunities available to them, with additional support provided for a number of small organisations selected by the ODI each year.
Commenting on the plans, the Technology Strategy Board's Chief Executive Iain Gray said: "It is a measure of the priority given by the government to Open Data that it has committed funding at this time to support the Open Data Institute through the Technology Strategy Board."
Data quality may also prove important for members of the Direct Marketing Association, as according to Marketing Week the body has called on corporations to "come together" when the industry is faced with criticism.
