Data quality 'important to business decisions'

Aug 26 2010, 09:59 AM

The importance of high data quality to businesses has been outlined by an expert.

Ian Huckle, chief executive officer of international consultancy Business and Decision, explained why many organisations put considerable effort into improving their data quality processes as much as possible.

"The ability to make confident and consistent decisions is determined by the quality of data on which they are based," he said.

This is the reason many businesses are so concerned about ensuring data quality across their various operations.

A similar sentiment was expressed recently by Jim Harris, a columnist for the SmartData Collective website.

The commentator expressed his view that data quality needs to be treated as a "corporate asset" by companies.

Mr Harris went on to explain that it can be a "very powerful thing" for an organisation, as a good standard of data quality can act as a solid base for business success by stopping critical decisions being taken using inaccurate information.
