Data quality monitoring 'is important'
Jun 17 2010, 11:13 AM
Carrying out regular data quality assessments is a must for organisations handling large volumes of information, it has been suggested,
Writing for DataFlux, Dylan Jones said these checks should be performed regularly, as poor data governance can lead to widespread inaccuracies across company records.
"A data quality assessment will unearth these gaps and is an argument for why continual assessment and monitoring is so important," he commented.
As a business model evolves, information management tends to lag behind, "leaving defective data in its wake".
Mr Jones noted that improving data processes can provide "dramatic benefits" when done properly.
Writing recently for his OCDQ blog, industry commentator Jim Harris said that achieving a sustainable data governance programme can be difficult, but not impossible.
He suggested that problems can be addressed as long as people are communicating effectively and working towards the same goal, adding that "collaboration" is key when it comes to this.
