Data quality 'of utmost importance'

Sep 30 2009, 10:08 AM

One industry analyst has discussed the importance of data quality in the current economic climate.

Leon Benjamin is an online community, social software and web 2.0 practitioner and the author of the book Winning by Sharing.

He made his comments following the publication of a study by Gartner, which indicated that firms can make use of "context-aware computing" in order to enhance client relationships by using known data to improve transaction familiarity.

Mr Benjamin said that the global economic downturn has resulted in many companies moving their marketing and promotional products on to the internet, meaning that their reliance on data mining techniques and database marketing may have increased.

Data quality can be of great importance in terms of identifying and profiling customers in order to provide them with the services and products that are most suited to their needs.

"It's all about the value of data," Mr Benjamin concluded.
