Data quality problems 'easy to identify'
May 14 2010, 11:01 AM
Data quality problems are relatively easy to identify but can be difficult to remedy, it has been suggested.
Lance Mercereau, director of marketing and public relations at Rosslyn Analytics, explained: "If duplicate payment is the data issue someone, typically, has entered the incorrect data with the system - one can clearly identify [the cause], but addressing it is something else."
He noted that the majority of companies are typically focused on top-line data. However, it is also important that organisations address any issues with their bottom-line spend data, Mr Mercereau commented.
Businesses that have a system in place to identify data quality problems and locate the people that are making the mistakes are in a good position to manage data governance.
A recent study carried out by Rosslyn Analytics revealed that one-third of procurement professionals have little confidence that their company's spend data is accurate.
