Data quality quest 'requires enterprise-wide collaboration'

Aug 10 2010, 09:47 AM

Successful data quality projects require the support and collaboration of an entire organisation.

According to SmartData Collective blogger Jim Harris, change is the only constant in the world of business, with the creation and maintenance of data shaping a company's perception of rapidly-evolving industries.

He said this makes data quality highly important, as companies attempt to gain business insight through the information they have to hand.

"This quest truly requires an enterprise-wide collaboration, a shared purpose that dissolves the barriers - data silos, politics and any others - which separate business units and individuals," Mr Harris added.

Earlier this month, Mr Harris suggested that those people involved in promoting the importance of conducting data quality projects at their organisation should focus on the tangible business benefits such work provides.

He said this includes the mitigated risks, reduced costs and increased revenue that can result from making the decision to improve data quality levels.
