Data quality's importance to BI
Aug 1 2007, 16:52 PM
The importance of maintaining a high standard of data quality in business intelligence (BI) initiatives has been highlighted.
Computer Business Review has looked at the continuing uncertainty within the business world about the potential for BI initiatives to make a significant difference to the way a company operates and its efficiency.
One area that is being overlooked by firms is data quality, which remains important in the development of BI operations as it can reduce the risk of dirty data slowing down the BI platform.
By carrying out data cleansing exercises, companies can help to reduce the impact of incorrect data on a BI platform and ensure that the BI initiative runs smoothly and as efficiently as possible.
"BI adoption levels hinge on having a trusted, up-to-date source of integrated data," Kevin Quinn, vice-president of product marketing at Information Builders, told Computer Business Review.
He added: "Data quality and integrity don't automatically fall out from operational systems."
