Data quality 'should be a priority for businesses'
Oct 29 2009, 10:59 AM
Data quality should be a priority for businesses in this day and age, it has been suggested.
Writing in his blog for ITBusinessEdge, Mike Vizard noted that the quest to make sure that data is reliable and up-to-date often seems like a "never-ending battle".
He explained that data quality has been in the spotlight in recent years as many organisations are sharing their information "more aggressively" than before.
Although he believes that the data quality war can never truly be won, Mr Vizard claimed that businesses can make an effort to eradicate conflicting data and reduce errors.
"There's no shame in having bad data; everybody does. The only real sin is not trying to do anything about it," he added.
Writing for Forbes earlier this month, Dan Wood, Chief Technology Officer and Editor of Evolved Technologist, noted that using poor data sources costs organisations billions of pounds every year.
