Demand for cloud computing solutions 'on the rise'

Jun 30 2010, 11:38 AM

The number of British businesses turning to cloud computing solutions is on the rise, it has been suggested.

David Bradshaw, European Software as a Service and Cloud Services Research Manager at IDC, said it has already become relatively mainstream.

"The highest and middle-sized range – 500 to 999 employees – tend to be the heaviest users – 66 per cent of them are using cloud services in some part of their business," he explained.

Mr Bradshaw noted that the cloud is already an enormous market and one that is likely to continue growing rapidly over the coming years.

He added that it is already more widely used than people realise.

"For example, using cloud for email filtering or for web conferencing. Those are cloud services and people are already using those in very large numbers," Mr Bradshaw continued.

Research published earlier this year by International Data Corporation revealed that server revenue for public cloud computing is likely to grow from $582 million (£389 million) in 2009 to $718 million in 2014.
