Focusing on data governance "is critical"

Apr 29 2010, 11:23 AM

Data governance should be a key focal point for companies aiming to protection confidential information.

At least this is the suggestion of an article on the ITWeb website, which cited the claims of the Data Governance Institute that there is consensus about just how important these strategies can be.

"Experts agree that data governance is critical for organisations that are serious about stopping accidental and malicious data leaks, regardless of whether it's customer information, financial data, intellectual property or trade secrets," the piece read.

And it also indicated that there is a growing awareness of how data governance can be vital for both public and private organisations.

The comments were published ahead of a data governance conference being hosted by ITWeb and SCT in Johannesburg next month and follow the recent claims of Gartner Group's John Kost, who told Publitechnology.net that these strategies could hold the secret to maximising efficiency in the public sector.
