Governance framework 'can lead to better data quality standards'
Dec 1 2010, 09:33 AM
Data quality standards can be improved if the correct governance procedures are in place within an organisation.
This is the view of SmartData Collective blogger Jim Harris, who noted issues with poor data quality can often be attributed to a lack of understanding of the roles and responsibilities of workers in helping to protect business information.
He said data governance structures can be implemented to help tackle this problem in an effective manner.
"A data quality programme within a data governance framework is a cross-functional, enterprise-wide initiative requiring people to be accountable for its data, business process and technology aspects," Mr Harris added.
Last month, IT Business Edge blogger Loraine Lawson said data quality projects need the full support of business departments to work properly.
She said the key to success is to get employees involved in these areas to maintain their interest once the work has been going for some time.
