Improve data quality 'using simple web-based tools'

Nov 20 2009, 10:11 AM

Data quality professionals may be interested to learn that one website has compiled a list of steps which can be taken to improve the quality of an organisation's information.

Writing for Data Quality Pro, Dylan Jones said there are a number of low-cost web-based tools to help businesses communicate and collaborate more effectively.

He explained that one of the most useful web-based applications he has come across is Basecamp, which features an interactive discussion manager, writeboards, messaging and task assignments.

"Don't let the simplicity of this tool fool you. I recently implemented Basecamp for a data migration project that had over 50 staff collaborating effectively across four timezones," Mr Jones commented.

Other applications that may be useful for data quality purposes include SurveyMonkey, SocialCast and Evernote.

Speaking to cambridgenetwork.co.uk recently, Bryn Davies, Director of InfoBlueprint, said many companies make the mistake of overlooking data quality.
