Improved data quality 'leads to better decision making'

Sep 2 2010, 09:41 AM

Improving data quality can have a dramatic effect on a company's performance, helping it to make more informed business decisions.

ZDNet blogger Joe McKendrick pointed out that a new study from Sybase has laid out some of the benefits organisations can receive from achieving a higher level of data quality.

The report found that the improvements are likely to come from "better and timely decisions … as well as fewer errors and rework, lower working capital requirements [and] faster receivables, etc - which will lower costs."

Improved decision making will have the knock-on effect of increasing customer satisfaction and brand loyalty, thereby leading to higher revenues, it was suggested.

Last month, Ian Huckle, chief executive officer of international consultancy Business and Decision, explained that many companies put a considerable amount of effort into ensuring data quality because it can help them be more "confident and consistent" when making judgements about their future plans.
