Jul 19 2007, 17:18 PM
Data protection cases in Ireland increased during 2006, it has been revealed.
Precision reports that the number of cases investigated in Ireland more than doubled over the past year compared to 2005, with 658 complaints looked into by the Office of the Data Commissioner.
Overall, the office received over 20,000 enquiries during the course of 2006 and the major increase in complaints being put down largely to increased breaches of the EC directive on Privacy and Electronic Communications.
This section, which relates to cold calls and unsolicited text messages, made up 39 per cent of all complaints received by the office over the course of last year.
