Irish companies 'becoming more aware of data security needs'
Jan 8 2010, 11:33 AM
Irish businesses are becoming more aware of the need to protect the information they hold, it has been reported.
According to the Irish Times, the number of high-profile data losses in recent times has prompted many companies to review their own policies.
A recent survey carried out by Ernst Young found that data security is a key issue for 69% of Irish managers.
Furthermore, 96% of the country's bosses said they had a clear understanding of information regulations and privacy laws, compared to 73% of their international counterparts.
Commenting on the findings, Pat Moran, Advisory Services Partner at Ernst Young Ireland, said: "Nobody wants to have their organisation in the paper and no board member or CEO wants a microphone in their face."
In related news, it was revealed recently that a new data security centre has opened at Queen's University in Belfast.
The state-of-the-art facility will bring together expertise in areas such as data strategy and wireless network enabled systems and the centre will pioneer the concept of converged security.
