Aug 20 2007, 10:24 AM

The Irish health sector is making significant in-roads into improving care for the elderly thanks to a concerted focus on technology and data quality.

The Irish Times reports that the sector is working hard to deliver improvements in the services it can provide to older people and one of the areas in which it has achieved improvements is through utilising technology to enhance its databases.

Herbert Weber, director of marketing digital home at Intel Europe, Middle East and Africa, explained: "The underlying genetic problem is that people are living longer. We have been focused on health technology research for seven years and now have two dedicated business units for the sector."

He continued that one of these areas is considering how to improve databases and IT infrastructure in hospitals so that doctors have all the information that they need regarding a patient.

By delivering better standards of address data quality, the health sector can ensure that patients are properly looked after given the right level of care.
